How to emulate the mounting behavior of Ubuntu (automatic creation and removal of mount points)

http://askubuntu.com – When I mount from Nautilus, the mount point is automatically created, and when I unmount it's removed. But, when I try to mount from the command-line on a mount point that doesn't exist, it won't allow me. I thought maybe it's an Ubuntu or Nautilus thing, but when I use umount on a mount point that is created via Ubuntu/Nautilus, it automatically gets removed. So I thought this behavior could be imitated from the command line. Any help is appreciated, thanks. (HowTos)
