How do you explain ethernet cable problems to non networking people? [closed]

http://serverfault.com – We've recently been doing a large network migration in our datacenter. We've had a few cables in this start to deliver really bad pings (in excess of 500ms on a LAN) before they could be replaced. The cables we were replacing weren't made the best. They where all hand made and the runs were so short on some of them that the bend radius was definitely too tight. Some of them ran in bundles right in front of the heat exhaust of the power supplies. The cables were running ok until we started pulling the ones surrounding them out. Then a few started having the problem I mentioned above degr (HowTos)

Due to my carelessness, three of the IDE power cables from my power supply have broken wires. I must have clumsily broke them at various times when poking around in the case. I never replaced the PSU, because I'm frugal and I had just enough power cables left for my IDE devices, but should I have? Could the broken wires short anything out?

As the thread title states, this thread is about OTG Cables. I made this thread to help save people from spending a couple dollars on OTG Cables that don't work.

I know that power cables can sometimes interfere with network cables. When routing cables it is best to separate the power from the network cables.

When using a cable management arm (like below) can I route both the network and power cable through it?

Thanks for taking the time to help out. I have a 64 bit install of Ubuntu 10.04, I was surfing up to 11:30pm EST last night, shut down for the night, upon reboot am unable to connect to the internet or my local network.

I have been trying to crimp cat6+ cables at home and been having issues. some would work fine at gig others would only go to 100mb. Is there a reasonable tester out there for verifying a cable run will work @ 1gb?
