I attempted to create a desktop icon in Fedora Gnome but I only get a generic binary icon for my application. Installing Gimp or OpenOffice magically makes my icon appear.
I used Google Chrome on Fedora as an reference for making a desktop icon using png images.
Hi, I have installed Google Chrome but tint2 is not using its current logo as icon, it is using the older one...well kind of... Google Chrome is in /opt so the instructions I found for iceweasel or firefox are not going to work the same way... thanks for your help even with this fancy useless thing... but I really like Google Chrome and really hate that ugly icon
I was running Google Chrome just fine but I noticed that was too many chrome process running, one of them consuming with high memory usage, so I decided to terminate that unique chrome process.
Since I did that, I having chrome black screen for all visited pages.
Have already tried to remove chrome from synaptic and installed it again but the black screen persists.

Hey I wanted to use chromium version 24 and by chance I have found this ppa https://launchpad.net/~a-v-shkop/+archive/chromium-dev
I have installed it and was trying to change the icon of google-chrome. I found that it is installed in /opt/google/chrome directory and there are some png files that vary in size, replacing that with new png icon I wanted to use didn't work.
I am facing a problem with the dash not showing proper/actual icons for certain applications such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Daily Mail. Instead of getting the standard icons for these applications, I get to see a default icon for all the applications.
I am using the Mate Desktop Environment v-1.4.1 and having a Mate-Menu applet in the bottom panel: Shutdown [ICON] Applications Places System. See screenshot below.
Is there any way to change or remove the [ICON] on the left of the Applications menu?

When I open the applications menu in Gnome Shell it lists everything I have installed including command line tools like bash and aptitude. Most of the GUI applications (Chrome, Libre Office etc.) have two icons each, and one is low resolution.
How do I remove or hide the icons which should not be there?
I searched the forums and couldn't find anything close to the mystery icon that showed up recently on my HTC evo 3D:
It's the second icon from the left, between the More Notifications icon and the Data icon. I've been trying for hours to figure out what it is. I'm sure it's a custom icon from some app, but I haven't installed a new app recently.
