How do I get rid of an extra wireless indicator in XFCE panel?

http://askubuntu.com – I'm on 12.04 with XFCE. After apt-get upgrade and rebooting, I noticed that I now have two wireless indicators in my xfce panel. The one on the right is the usual one used by Unity and installed by the panel using the xfce4-indicator-plugin; it's a bit bigger. The one on the left is the extra. When I click on it, I get an "old"-style menu that doesn't fit the rest of the desktop theme . What's strange is that there seems to be no way to remove it from the panel. Although every other panel item has a "remove" option by right-clicking, this one does not! I looked in the list of startup (HowTos)
