Hi,
For some reason my laptop is not showing my hidden grub menu, either the splash to let you know that grub has loaded or the menu itself by pressing the escape key.
I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed along side of windows 7.
The grub menu doesn't seem obey GRUB_TIMEOUT=10, I see the grub menu there for a split second and it immediately defaults to the first option.
Grub menu worked fine when I first installed ubuntu. I am not able to pinpoint what exactly broke it(maybe some update?).
I am running Ubuntu 12.04.
I cannot for the life of me get the grub menu (with options) to go away.
I would like it to auto-boot into the first option.
I formerly had windows 7 without ubuntu. Now I upgraded it to windows 8..then I installed ubuntu 12.10 with live disk.
After installing it runs ok and I see a dual boot option in grub menu. Now sometimes I log in to windows 8 for some tasks.

I have been trying to set up a dual boot ubuntu for a couple of days with no luck.
With a clean machine, installing Windows 7 and then Ubuntu 11.10, on reboot, I do not get a grub menu, instead it goes straight into Windows.
I tried installing Fedora 16 which worked as expected (Grub menu with Windows and Fedora options).
Formatting the Fedora partition and re-installing Ubuntu over it gi
First post..go easy :)
I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 as a dual boot with my Windows 7. I was using the Grub Customizer to mess with the Grub menu. I changed the resolution of the grub menu using Grub Customizer from 1900x1080x8 (or 16) to 1900x1080x24. Upon reboot I can no longer see my Grub menu. I can hit up/down arrow and select the OS by guessing.
Hi everyone,
I got ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx along with windows (dual boot) and using Grub.
On my computer, I have my C:/ (programs) and D:/ (data).
I've never used my D:/ before that day that I've lost my windows partition on my grub menu.
I usually use my D:/ with windows. The first time I used my D:/ to store data with linux, I lost my windows option in my grub menu.
Can I make changes to /etc/boot/grub/menu.lst from the GRUB Menu that says 'Hi' to me when my machine boots up?
e.g. Linux is installed in (hd0,0) and windows in (hd0,5). The windows' one is set to default in /etc/boot/grub/menu.lst. Now when my machine boots up, I want my windows to boot up BUT I also want that the next time when I restart, Linux must boot up by default.
