How to disable energy saving on notebook screen when using Scientific Linux 6.3?

http://unix.stackexchange.com – So there is a notebook that has Scientific Linux 6.3 installed with GNOME. If we don't press any button on the keyboard or move the mouse, the screen of it turns black. But: if we move the mouse/hit a button when the screen of it went black.. it still stays black.. it's not a hardware problem, it's a problem related to the OS. I didn't find any energy saving options for this in the BIOS. I the screen is black, we can slightly see that the OS is still running, but it's very-very-very dark.. The only solution is to press the power-on button for 5 seconds to turn the machine off.. Any sol (HowTos)

I've been using Hardy Heron for a few months on a third-hand Compaq Presario S3200NX with the original monitor with few problems. I was recently given a new-to-me flatscreen (Gateway 900W, mfg June 2006) for use instead and attempted to install it with no luck.

hi all. thisis my first thread on this forum :) i have sensation 4g (t-mobile). today I swiped cache and dylmok. then shut down mobile. after pressed power button screen was black and lighting. after this when i plug it usb or press power button screen is black and lighting. i can't enter in recovery too :( only screen is black and lighting when press power button.

My problem is that when I wake up my screen, its black but its responding to input. The screen works when starting the device, but when pressing the power button and then unlocking it like 10 minutes later, the screen stays black. It responds to input, but no picture on the screen.

yesterday I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P5110 and flashed CM 10.1 RC2.

First I worked like but then it freezes and just leaves a black screen. If I press the power button for about 10 seconds the backlight goes on for a couple of seconds and then again a black screen.

It seems that the tablet is frozen.

I am unable to lock my desktop in Ubuntu 11.10 with

Ctrl + Alt + L

If I press the above key sequence the screen turns black and the little lock icon appears at the top right of my screen.

However, if I press a key or move my mouse, the black screen disappears and my desktop appears again.

Does anyone know why?
