I attempted to create a desktop icon in Fedora Gnome but I only get a generic binary icon for my application. Installing Gimp or OpenOffice magically makes my icon appear.
I used Google Chrome on Fedora as an reference for making a desktop icon using png images.

/usr/share/applications will auto-populate the menu, but not the Desktop
/etc/skel would work, but only when the user is first created
xdg-desktop-icon only applies to the current user(?)

I just set up an ubuntu 9.10 server (no desktop environment, command line only) and I'm unable to see my samba share.
I followed these instructions.
Here are the relevant parts of my smb.conf file:
I created an application using quickly create ubuntu-application myapp.
Then I created translations and created deb package quickly package to install and test it. When I run myapp all strings from glade files were translated but all strings from code were not translated. What's this? How to solve this problem ?

How do you archive files, do you need to archive files in your computer?
