http://askubuntu.com – I'm trying to set up an Ubuntu 12.04 machine as a kiosk and I would like it, on boot, to automatically log in as my kiosk user "kiosk", and start the appropriate display manager, in this case blackbox. I have configured /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf as in this question and have an appropriate /usr/share/xsessions/blackbox.desktop to launch blackbox. I managed to get initial autologin by using the dbus-send method in this question, however if I right-click and select "Exit" from blackbox, then I am taken back to the login screen. How can I configure lightdm/ubuntu to always autologin as "kiosk" (HowTos)

I've set up a kiosk using Ubuntu 12.04, and I'd like to have it autologin after a user logs out or if the screen locks, in case someone manages to get back to lightdm or tries to login to the non-kiosk account after a reboot. I've tried setting display-setup-script in lightdm.conf to run xautolock to trigger restarting lightdm, but that just causes Ubuntu startup in low graphics mode.

I recently made a few changes to my PC (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Desktop): Installed openssh-server so I could check on the computer remotely Added my username to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf to log me in automatically Installed fail2ban

Here are the lines I added to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Code: autologin-user=clay autologin-user-timeout=0 Now when I start the computer, I get the server login

I have xorg on an ubuntu server and I'm forwarding X applications to my windows PC to Xming. I can forward blackbox/fluxbox easily but I want to keep the session alive after I close it.

I'm trying to create my own Ubuntu LiveCD without Unity. When lightdm loads is says (Failed to load session "ubuntu"). The autologin fails and then lightdm reloads with a normal login screen.

I can login fine with ubuntu user and if I run "sudo x-session-manager" I still get the error message (Failed to load session "ubuntu").

I have a problem with ubuntu 12.04 I try the Kiosk mode. So I want to turn on after start Xorg in xintrc mam-defined start Google Chrome and Opera in full screen.

In an earlier version of my work autologin script I entered into / Etc/event.d/tty1

exec / sbin / getty-n-l / usr / sbin / autologin 38400 tty1

then run startx and everything running as it should ...

I want to configure a kiosk pc with opera in kiosk mode.

so I installed Ubuntu 10.12 minimal with

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core xinit sudo apt-get install rungetty

tty1.conf: exec /sbin/rungetty –autologin username tty1 .bash_profile: startx .xinitrc: exec opera --k

everything work well, after booting opera appears in kiosk mode

Lightdm is displayed properly but after entering a password and clicking login, I see the screen blink and lightdm window re-appears and asks to log in as if nothing happened.

I know the consequences of running root. :)

I would like to boot root autologin. I have tried: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=287368

editing the file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and change: autologin-user = root

did not work.

Do you have any suggestion?

I would like to use r-kiosk plugin for my firefox to launch in to full screen mode and preventing the users to meddle with the setup.

But I would need to make some changes like described below.

Allow URL Bar/address Bar so that users can change to another URL if needed apart from the home page. Allow java programs to be executed from a web-browser since I am using a jar to do some text printing
