So I have a KVM machine, where I run an Ubuntu 12.04 (server edition).
I want to compile a minimalistic kernel for the KVM guest, but I only found the howto for hosts, and guests with paravirtualization.
I want to compile a kernel for a guest. Nothing more. With only the things it needs.
The kernel configuration option:
VMware Balloon Driver (VMWARE_BALLOON) [N/m/y/?] (NEW) ?
CONFIG_VMWARE_BALLOON:
This is VMware physical memory management driver which acts like a
"balloon" that can be inflated to reclaim physical pages by reserving

I did a yum update yesterday that pulled down kernel 3.9.2-200, after rebooting it is not possible to start any guests (as root) using "virsh start guestname"...
I am having a lot of troubles to have my virtualbox guest additions installed, I got this message:

Best of my knowledge you have to run a paravirtualized guest to have it take advantage of memory adjustment. For PV guests you have to load the xen-balloon kernel module to catch memory adjustments. [by TrevorH]

I become successful to download kernel, compile it and run it.
BUT
When i modify tcp.c file or any other file in this /usr/src/linux/net/ipv4 location, (just modifying c files) i have to compile the complete kernel every time, which is very time consuming procedure.
So Please help, How to compile that net/ipv4 package or etc...

Is anyone having trouble installing Guest Additions on VirtualBox 4.2.10? I want to install Fedora 18 (64bit) Guest on an Ubuntu Host and so far so good, except for the Guest Additions. Here is feedback from Fedora OS:
