I am looking to migrate a vCenter 5.0 virtual appliance to another machine with DAS. Is it possible to do this without vMotion and without breaking anything?
If so, could one follow a similar process to migrating a VM without a vCenter server as outlined here?
I am trying to access a newly vCenter.
The documentation clearly mentions to access the web-admin through:
https://localhost:9443/admin-app
but since I don't have a windows OS built under the vCenter (I use the vCenter Appliance)
There is no localhost to use.
Can vCenter authenticate against FreeIPA instead of Active Directory? If so, how would you set it up?
We have a pure Linux environment (CentOS) and need to have vCenter are our VM's have the same users. vCenter is deployed as a Linux appliance. Would prefer not to have a Windows machine in our environment.
When trying to migrate from vCenter 2.5 to vCenter 5, I removed an ESX 3.5 host from vC2.5, and attempted to manage it with my new vC5 server. I received this error message, and the attempt fails:
VI3 hosts cannot be added if vCenter is licensed but License Server is not Configured
(VI3 refers to Virtual Infrastructure 3: ESX 3.x and vCenter 2.5.
I have a problem connection to the VCenter Web Client. I can connect and do some administration from the VLAN that the Vcenter server is on and this is working fine.
But if I connect from our client computers VLAN I can connect to the Vcenter server and see the welcome page but as soon as I click on the Log in on the right (Redirect to :9443/vsphere-client/ ) this just times out.
We have recently bought a "white box" server to run VMware ESXi 5.0 (we're planning to use the vSphere 5 Essentials Kit). According to VMware's Compatibility Guide, the server's LSI Logic MegaRAID SAS 9260-4i RAID controller is compatible (support type listed as "inbox").
I've got as far as installing ESXi 5.0 on the host, and I've also installed the vCenter Server Appliance.
I'm trying to do P2V with a Debian powered-on source. Everything works perfectly up until the point of selecting destination.
It states that the destination type is VMware Infrastructure virtual machine.
It asks for the server details and along the right it states that supported VMware Infrastructure products include VMware vCenter Server 2.0, 2.5 and 4.0.
Network Monitoring Appliance
I have SQL Server express installed on vCenter, so the maximum size of the database can be only 4GB.
