Well, all I ever wanted was to download and install an application from the terminal.
And to my surprise I just can't I tried to reset proxy of the terminal by some commands but it doesn't happen and automatically switches back to this proxy 172.16.0.16 (which apparently was my college proxy). I checked in my system settings too..
Alright, so basically what I need is for the terminal to use a SOCKS (version 4) proxy.

I had to configure proxy settings for Dropbox manually (it has such configuration). But how can I configure U1 proxy manually? If it for some reason ignores Auto Proxy Settings.

I travel a lot and work in different environments each requiring different proxy settings with and without authenticitation as well as at home where I have no proxy.
In 10.04 LTS, I used to be able to save the configurations in the proxy-setting
