How can I stop ubuntu from mistaking my wireless mouse and keyboard for a joystick?

http://askubuntu.com – Ubuntu thinks that my A4Tech wireless mouse and keyboard are a joystick. The proof of that is when I try to launch steam from a terminal I get this output: "Opening joystick A4TECH USB Device". The annoying thing about this is that when I try to use the Big Picture mode, the item on the far left of the menu is always highlighted. It's as if I'm pressing left all the time. If I try to press the right direction key, the right item would be highlighted and the focus would go immediately back to the left item. It's not just steam, a few games that run under wine have also presented this issue. I c (HowTos)
