I had a major crash on my ubuntu 12.04.lts computer system.
I had to push the restart button in order to get the computer to run again.
Info: I installed virtualbox latest edition and the extension pack.
It succeeded, but when I tried to import virtual machines into virtualbox,
from a usb hard drive, the system froze.
I have ubuntu 12.04 installed with virtualbox 4.1.12. I have a windows 7 professional 32-bit virtualmachine with a bridged network adapter inside virtualbox. I've given a static ip to this machine with all ports open on both host and virtual machine (for now) but people outside of my network can't remote into the virtual machine, just the host.
After rummaging through the VirtualBox Virtual Machine Settings -- trying to find out how to use a host device (in this case a USB flash drive) in a VirtualBox SAS controller -- in an endless loop, I feel hopeless.
Here's my reason for the use of a system block device in a virtual machine:
You see, this VM is a 64-bit VM designed to emulate a 64-bit system on a 32-bit processor. Why?
I am running ubuntu 9.10 two ways: (a) as the host OS on one machine I will call ``Machine A'' (or just "A"), and (b) as a guest OS (in Oracle VM virtualbox 3.2, upgraded today from sun virtualbox 3.1) on another machine I will call ``Machine B'', (or just "B"). The host OS of Machine B is Win XP Pro. On A, I have installed sun virtualbox, and for a while that worked well.
Hi, I am running F18 (3.8.7-201.fc18.i686.PAE) with VirtualBox 4.2.12. I downloaded the F19 alpha and set up a virtual machine following the defaults and then started up the machine. I select the i386 alpha ISO I downloaded (which is on my hard drive) and choose the option to install.
I get a white screen and nothing else.
My Ubuntu 12.04 install is on /dev/sda5 and Windows 7 is on /dev/sda1. When I am running Ubuntu, I would like to use Virtualbox to run Windows 7 in a VM. The Windows 7 partition is 1 TB and is half full, i.e.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 last week. Now I want to use windows 7 on ubuntu via virtualbox. I installed the virtualbox and created a new machine namely 'windows 7', im booting through an iso image... when i start the virtual machine it does not run.
I am having a really nasty problem with VirtualBox as everytime I try to install any guest OS(using ISO file as CD for installation media), the installation starts normally but as soon as it is about to start either installing to virtual hard drive or loading(e.g. as LiveFS) it causes the host system to reboot abruptly.
Steps 31-47 of this guide to install Ubuntu on a virtual machine (using VirtualBox) describe how to attach the Ubuntu instal ISO image file to the IDE Controller of the virtual machine.
This has not been mentioned or explained in any of the YouTube tutorials I watched on installing Ubuntu to a VirtualBox VM. I have no idea what it is doing or what it means. Is this a necessary step?
