Hi,
I am a beginner when it comes to Linux, and have recently put together a media server, holding all my movies, running ubuntu 12.04.
After following tutorials and forums i can successfully ping, by hostname and ip, my windows desktop box and my media server ubuntu box fine, and vice versa.
I have configured samba to set up a share called Movies on my media server.
I have the latest version of Samba, latest Ubuntu build, and have enabled Samba and decided to share 2 folders from my home folder on the linux box. I chose to not allow guest access and to require a password to login. The shared folders do show up on my XP box, but when I click on them and it prompts me for a username and password, the login info entered doesn't work.

I am running Ubuntu netbook remix 10.04 with samba installed and trying to share to a windows 7 machine...
I have added the win 7 username and password to samba, and also added a user with the same un & pw to the ubuntu users.
When i browse to map a network drive in win 7, I can see the folder, but the error I get states that the folder exists but I don't have permission.
Can anybody help?
Hi everyone
I have a RHEL 5 linux box running SAMBA. I want to create a fileshare on linux machine to all other machines. My client machines are Windows XP and Vista.
I create an user account test on samba server using Webmin with default options. I didn't change anything. Just adding user name and password.
