I just installed Mate on top of Ubuntu by the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://packages.mate-desktop.org/repo/ubuntu oneiric main"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mate-archive-keyring
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mate-core
sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment
Which caused no problems, but many things (window theme, Mint menu, ...) are missing

Crunchbang Waldorf based on Debian Wheezy. #! is a distribution with very a easy configuration. The reason is the standard activation of non-free software/firmware and some other optimizations. To install a media server so you can use a normal Debian Wheezy and configure and install everything on your own or use Crunchbang. For problems see the Crunchbang or Debian community.
Hello guys; i've ran kde for quite some time now. I dislike some things about kde though, but i love kwin. I have installed Mate into Debian Wheezy, but i knew i'd miss some features that kwin provided. kwin causes graphical issues with mate, gnome and xfce for some reason though. I have been looking into alternative window managers i can use with mate. One feature i desire is window snapping.
The installation of wheezy defaulted to the KDE desktop environment. How do I remove it and switch to GNOME 2 (the version that is used in stable)?
I fear that if I just install gnome-core, it will install GNOME 3. Can I just make sources.list point to an older version of some package?
I prefer GNOME 2 because it works well with bluetile (I don't want MATE, or other copies).

I'm running Debian Wheezy and my default Display Manager is gdm3, and I would like to replace it with lxdm the problem is that I'm trying to run # apt-get install lxde and it's not working, what I'm doing wrong?
My /etc/apt/sources.list is:
deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux testing _Wheezy_ - Official Snapshot i386 DVD Binar$
deb http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian wheezy main
deb-src http://ftp.br.debia
There are basically 2 ways of running debian testing a.k.a. wheezy (or unstable a.k.a. sid) with crunchbang goodies:1) you can either install #! (based on debian stable a.k.a.
I am trying to build dwm from source.
