http://www.liberiangeek.net – Windows Firewall is a security feature that is enabled by default in Windows and it sits at the door of your computer allowing and denying programs as they enter your computer from another computer either on the Internet or locally. It times, programs that you want allowed on your system are also blocked by Windows Firewall. For instance, some multiple-players game online will required that a specific port (door) be opened on your computer, and if Windows Firewall is not aware of that program, it will block it as well.   In this short tutorial, I’ll show you how to allow programs through Windows Firewall. Firewall programs are your friend. Don’t turn it off all together. You need it to protect you from malicious programs that may want to to destroy your computer.   To allow a program that is being blocked by Windows Firewall, click Start –> and type ‘Windows Firewall’ in the search box as shown below. Next select Windows Firewall program at the bottom.       2) Next, click ‘Allow a program through Windows Firewall’ on the left.       3) Next you need to know the port # that the program communicate on. Ask the creator of the program for the port #. Once you get it, click Add port button as shown below.       4) Next, enter a name for the exception and port number of the program you want to allow. The name can be anything. The communication protocol can either be TCP or UDP. If you don’t know which protocol the program uses, create another exception with UDP protocol selected.         Close out and you’re done. Now try the program again to see if it can connect to where ever it wants to connect. Join the forum discussion on this post — (1) Posts (HowTos)
