Hosting provider deploys Brocade solutions for cloud services

Sources have told GigaOM that Google will likely be launching a cloud services platform next week at Google I/O to compete with Amazon’s EC2 and Microsoft’s Azure services.

Private cloud services provider, OBT, has deployed a Melbourne node which it says will provide cloud services continuity, offering additional disaster recovery, high availability and failover services with the addition of the new point of presence in Melbourne.

Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) is stepping up its game in the fabric networking space with its latest switch, featuring support for 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE). The VDX 8770 is a 1/10/40 GbE modular switch designed to extend Brocade’s Virtual Cluster Switching (VCS) technology for Ethernet fabrics and cloud-optimized networks.

Dreamhost has built a public cloud service called DreamCompute that is built on OpenStack, the open cloud infrastructure. The new infrastructure as a service (IaaS) shows how a federated, universal cloud shows market promise to give customers a greater choice from open and proprietary offerings. Dreamhost, a longstanding hosting provider, has over the past few years been active in OpenStack.
