I noticed that Fedora 12 made some odd design decisions for default GNOME settings, and I couldn't locate the System->Preferences->Windows menu item to change them back.
The design options I'm talking about:
I find the default display of "Permissions" in nautilus (when viewing properties of a folder/file) difficult to use.
To solve this, I always used gconf-editor in 10.04 to change to the following:
gconf-editor: apps > nautilus > preferences > show_advanced_permissions
How can I get permissions to look like above in 12.04?
If you used to be a Windows user, you should prefer the Computer,Home,Network and Trash icons on your ubuntu gnome desktop.
Press Alt+F2 key combination, and this window pop up,type gconf-editor to start configuration editor.
By default, when you insert a USB drive or mount a partition in Linux Mint, the partition and USB icons will appear on the desktop. In my opinion, it is redundant and makes the desktop ugly.
I upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 and found something wrong with 'Desktop' , by which I mean what is shown when all windows are minimized. And I found
1. 'Desktop' does NOT response to mouse right-click.
2. Desktop icons are gone too.
3.
If you want to turn off the touchpad.
here's how it work.
First, running a terminal,
Sudo apt-get install gconf-editor.
Hi all -
Still ironing out the kinks in a new install of Fedora 12.
Hi
I seem to have the same problem with every new Fedora/Gnome release :)
I run Maya which needs the Alt key to pan around the viewport.
I have two installations of Ubuntu 12.04 (One Desktop and one Netbook). They both have Unity and Gnome Shell. On the Desktop, the window buttons (close, maximize) show on windows that are maximized. On the Netbook the buttons only show on windows that are not maximized.
