Bluetooth portable speakers come in many styles and sizes, and some are just wonderful. But when audiophiles go aquatic, options become much more limited. Enter the ECOXBT waterproof speaker.

Samsung’s new portable Bluetooth speaker, model DA-F60, includes apt-X codec support and NFC pairing. Samsung has already made the simplicity of tapping to share, via S Beam, a big deal in their funny/naughty commercials. Now they’re using NFC to simplify Bluetooth pairing (which, if you hear my in-laws tell it, is nearly impossible).

The Jambox (or its many equivalents) is fine, but I much prefer the experience of visiting second-hand shops around the city in hopes of finding a tower speaker relic that smells musty but still has a richness of sound and vintage appeal.

I just stumbled upon Internet Radio from Ensight Media. The name says it all as it’s all about listening to internet radio stations, approximate 50,000 of them from all over the world. What’s cool about it is the antique or nostalgic look the app has. Remember when the radio was just a dial?

Living in the digital age is a privilege. All the content you could want, whether it’s music, video, games, or apps, is at the tip of your fingers every time you fire up the old MacBook or iPad. But these portable devices – our smartphones, tablets and notebooks – aren’t really prepared to deliver that content at the highest quality possible.

Kickstarter is a machine to build dreams. Whether it’s funding the publication of a novel, production of a movie, or the manufacture of, say, a little bike light, the site has proven time and time again that ideas – dreams, let’s say – cannot be deferred. Now the company is at a crossroads.

I’m in love. The Vers 1Q is a smallish, cube speaker. It costs $119 and its simplicity is the biggest draw. With a single speaker and easy connectivity, this little speaker easily fits into anyone’s life.

Long before the advent of the Jawbone Jambox, there was a portable speaker that was decently rugged, had tremendous battery life and amazing sound, and that was the Tivoli PAL.
