Help ... nVidia screen resolution on Acer 22" LCD

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – My friend has a custom-built desktop/tower that runs Fedora and Ubuntu. Both have a similar problem: we can not get the resoltion any higher than 800x600. We have an Acer V223w with top resolution of 1680x1050. The resolution actually used to be fine, including 1680x1050, but it is not something I have been able to tackle this time. We have Fedora 12 (same problem under 11), and his video hardware is nVidia GEForce 6100 SE nForce 430. I have tried xorg.conf, X -configure, hand editing, and lately, very little luck. Honestly, 800x600???? When I installed Fedora 12 I even gave it the resolution="1680x1050" booot parameter. That had worked for me. (I have a very similar machine). Livna, Fedora, nvidia, with drivers nv nouveau and nvidia, I can't make sense out of it: this is promarily because it does't work. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. It is truly embarrassing to turn on a 22" Flat Panel LCD that can do 1680x1050 (I've seen it!), and see 800x600. All answers welcome. Thanks, Bryan bryan dot zimmer at hotmail dot com (HowTos)
