Hello,
I decided to repair an old IBM thinkpad (A20m) which has quite a low spec...
800Mhz PIII
512 MB RAM
r128 Rage Pro Graphics
40GB HDD
The install process as with all linux distros went smoothly for me, as usually, the only thing annoyiny me is that the sound is (just not right).

I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 KK on my Thinkpad A20m (yes I know it's old). The install went fine, but I have a two major issues.
1. I cannot seem to connect to the repositories. They are all checked in software sources.
I have tried using
~sudo apt-get install (package)
When I choose an audio cd and then press play in VLC it just quits and doesn't play. Has anyone had this problem? I am running #! on an IBM Thinkpad A20m.
I'm troubleshooting a network problem for an acquaintance. He's running Lucid Netbook Edition on a Thinkpad X41.
A few days ago, according to him, he suddenly couldn't get online. He was at someone else's house and using their connection with no problems, then got back to his home network and couldn't connect.
I have the following situation
I have an Ethernet only HP Printer which I need to connect to a parallel port PC.
Could I use an External JetDirect card to connect my Ethernet printer to a Parallel port PC?
--UPDATE--
There is an Ethernet port on the PC but it's being used to connect to the Domain. So I can't unplug the PC's ethernet.
Hello
Since having to wipe my disk and re-install 11.10 i cannot connect via ethernet. Other devices can connect via ethernet to my router with no issues but the port will no longer recognise any connections. Ive even used ppoeconf to try to connect directly to my DSL modem but it cant detect the connection.
My motherboard ethernet input has broken so I am now trying to use an USB adapter.
The TRUlink ethernet adapter (USB 2.0 10/100/1000 Ethernet Adapter) that I am trying to use does not seem to be working in Ubuntu 11.04.
The output from "lspci | grep Ethernet" is:
Code:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
I did a straight install (removed Windows) of Ubuntu 9.04 onto my Thinkpad x200. When I connect via ethernet to my wireless hub, I'm good. But when I try to connect with my LAN using the wireless connection, the machine does not recognize any LAN as available.
