Hello, there.
My name is Eric Smith. I am a Linux newbie.
I have not yet installed a Linux, but I'm aiming for Slackware (for the learning curve).
I have (sadly) used Windows most of my life. Only recently have I met Linux.
PS: what is this 'alt:news' and similar links about? I can't find anything on them. Google just gives me pointless information...

I have several Windoz machines in a peer-to-peer network and now two SUSE machines, one 11.1 and another 11.2.

Where do I find Hibernate settings?
I looked in the system bios and there is no place to enable or disable hibernation.
So I figure there should be a system hibernation setting somewhere in Kubuntu.
Or is a widget I need to install?
Hey guys,
I'm not new to Ubuntu, I'v been using for a few years now. However I don't have that feeling of 'knowing' what I'm doing.
Ubuntu is among the most popular and user-friendly Linux operating systems you will find. That said, Ubuntu can be intimidating and frustrating to computer users just stepping out of the World of Windows. Nothing beats learning how to use the Linux operating system like hands-on discovery.
Samba is more of a suite of programs, I think. You shouldn't have to worry about ldap on the Linux side.I have a page, that should still work at
Good Afternoon. I'm TonyVanDam. I'm been a proud Linux user for the last 5+ years thus far. And it still feels great to successful stay off the Microsoft Plantation!

Hi guys, I have just moved over to Ubuntu 12.04 after 20 years of windows and am finding it a pretty steep learning curve. I have various versions of Linux running on desktops now with no problems:p
I decided to try it on my laptop with the live cd and ended up installing it completely.
