HDMI Sound output dissapearing after first use

http://askubuntu.com – I have a media centre with a ATI Radeon HD graphics card using Ubuntu desktop with all updates current which works fine for video and will also work perfectly for sound. The problem is that it seems after the first time using the media centre to play something the next time I come back to use it the HDMI output device is missing within the sound devices list (it's always there and not being used when I turn on the media centre for the first time). A reboot remedies this and I can then play a film or music through the TV (which is hooked up to the sound system). I appreciate there are other (HowTos)

Sound problem, no HDMI output Hi all,

Ubuntu 12.04 desktop 64bit ASUS mobo M5A97R2.0 audio Realtek ALC887

I have been struggling more than a week unable solving the sound problem via HDMI output.

On sound setting -> Output HDMI/DisplayPort disappears on "Play sound through"

I have another HD on this PC running Fedora 17 desktop 64bit. There is no problem on sound output via HDMI.

Ive got a strange problem here. I have a video card running with hdmi and it's plugged into my tv. The sound works fine when I first boot up. But when I turn the tv off and back on, the hdmi sound no longer works and is not an option in the sound menu. It won't work unless I reboot. Any ideas on keeping it on regardless of whether or not the tv gets turned off?

I have an Acer Aspire One 522 netbook which has an Intel HDA sound card based on the Conexant CX20584 chipset.

My media sound doesn't work. My mp3 files play but no sound comes out. My Pandora plays but no sound comes out. My phone rings when someone calls, my recieved texts makes a sound. All works fine but not my media. any solutions?

I just spent hours to configure the sound to work with HDMI. My last problem is, when I start playing sound the TV screen goes on and off, like when you change the resolution. When I stop playing sound, 3-5 seconds after, the same thing happen. I feel like everytime I play/stop the sound, the HDMI connection needs to be resetted.

Hello. There is such a problem. Although there is sound via hdmi (music, video, kde), there is no sound in firefox via hdmi. But what's more there is sound in headphones and analog output but I just can't make my sony tv to grab sound from analog output.

So I want to ask you if you know how to make firefox to play sound through hdmi?

Each time I use the HDMI output to connect my laptop and my TV everything works fine except the sound output. I have to go to sound preferences and change there the output to hdmi so that it works.

I had upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04 and amongst other problems, i had no sound from HDMI output. It didn't even see it in sound settings! So what to do? Some research found that updating to the 3.8.8 kernel worked along with making sure you have propietary drivers for Radeon, 13.4 version will do, manually installed in terminal of course.
