I have software RAID on Ubuntu 10.10 with currently disabled hardware RAID controller, server has 2*500GB in RAID 1 drives for OS and 3TB*4 in RAID 1 for storage. What do i want, create hardware raid at least for storage w/o loosing data, or best option to add two new 3TB drives and create hardware RAID 10.
Can I have software RAID for OS and hardware raid for storage ?
Thinking about doing a hardware RAID1 or RAID-10 on SSD drives. I read the hardware cards aren't able to keep up with SSD throughput. What are the specific nuances affecting SSD raid?
Also, Does anyone know if there are specific manufacturers focused on hardware raid cards for SSD?
Thanks!
Well, I'd always opt for hardware RAID rather than software RAID... however, when choosing a hardware RAID, there is always a question of available resources (i.e. MONEY!) to consider.
Well, I've been looking into setting up a RAID for my home server. I've been trying to decide between a software raid or buying a relatively cheap SATA controller and using it for a hardware RAID. I'm trying to figure out the pros and cons of buying a cheap hardware card for use rather than simply using a software solution. Are there any negatives to using LVM with either
Ok thank you.The guide i'm following left me stumped as it's had me working in the /var/ directory rather than /etc/. Being completely new to CentOS I didn't automaticall... [by Mark4785]
I have a desktop with a hardware RAID built into the motherboard, (possibly called a FakeRAID, according to some research I have done.)
It was setup as a RAID 5, under Ubuntu 11.04, I attempted to upgrade to 11.10, and just ran into a hell storm of issues.
I decided to just unplug the 4 hard drives as part of RAID 5, and re-install Ubuntu 11.10 on a standalone IDE hard drive.
Now that I h
Got a RAID question. My PC has 2 identical 500gb HDs. My BIOS setup does not show anything related to RAID, I've checked every entry, every option, yet the 9.10 installer "sees" RAID.
So, is my hardware physically set up as RAID? How can I check? I'd like to have it as 2 separate drives, and screw RAID. What do I do?
A client of ours has a server running Windows that is installed on a PERC S300 software RAID.
We want to upgrade this to a larger capacity, so we are also upgrading to a hardware RAID card (PERC H700).
Although we have backups of the server, we wanted to know if was possible to take an image of the Windows installation (using something like Ghost) and then restore the image to the hardware RAID.
Current situation:
Dell PowerEdge T300 server (SAS6/iR controller) (RAID 0/1)
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
server installed on software raid (2x500GB) + LVM. Currently used
space 25GB.
Questions:
How to make a secure backup of current installation in case of rollback. E.g.
