My hard drive and DVD drive are not being detected by the BIOS when I go in to the boot option menu by pressing F12. When I put the hard drive in a different computer it's being detected. I am assuming it's either the mother board or the BIOS.
Hey, everyone!
My problem isn't actually in Linux, but most people here seem to be pretty knowledgeable about computers as well, so I figured I'd ask.
hi i have installed ubuntu from a usb stick. it runs successfully from the usb.
when i try to run it direct from the hard drive nothing happens.
i am using an acer aspire 5600. without windows xp.
I installed Ubuntu today for the first time on a Dell desktop running Windows XP sp3.
I opted to install on a second hard drive, following these instructions:
http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/07/23/dual-boot-ubuntu-12-04-and-windows-...
When I reboot my computer, and enter the boot sequence menu in BIOS, there isn't even an entry for my second hard drive.
I just built my first system.
G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
ASRock H55M-LE LGA
Intel i5
I wanted to try Ubuntu 12.04, so I loaded it onto a flash drive and booted the computer. Everything worked fine. It loaded fine, I installed to a hard drive, and restarted. Now my computer won't boot up. It doesn't get to the BIOS screen when booting from the hard drive.
I have really screwed up. I was working in fixing a second drive windows install so I could dual boot and somehow either deleted or made my linux boot non-functional.
I am running on a 9,04 live CD (all I have) but actually have 12.04 installed on the hard drive.
I have tried google searching this subject and have tried a few things, but they have all failed.
I am at a loss of what to do.
I'm new to Ubuntu. I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a USB flash drive. It boots fine
from the USB stick. But if I remove it and boot again, Window 7 should boot. Well it doesn't. Seems like the hard disk is not there any more. Must have done something wrong while installing Ubuntu. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 1410 without a DVD reader.
The USB flash drive is a 64G Sandisk Cruzer.
I have two hard drives in my computer. The first is a 128GB ssd with windows 7 installed. The second is a 1TB, used for file storage etc. I decided to wipe the second hard drive and install ubuntu onto it. Installation went fine, until my computer restarted.
In my bios settings the disk with ubuntu was set as the master boot.
I searched for an answer, but was unable to find...
1. I have little knowledge of Ubuntu, I am using 12.10 (I tried Ubuntu several years ago).
2. I built a computer, ufei bios, multiple hard drives, SSD and two sata 6. Windows 7 is on the SSD, (drive C:), Ubuntu is on a sata 6 (drive F:).
