I installed grub2-bios into partition ,instead of MBR.I removed /boot/grub directory before the upgrade just in case# chattr -i /boot/grub/core.img
# rm -rf /boot/grub/
# pacman -Syu
# modprobe dm-modAfter grub2-bios and grub2-common have been upgraded , I ran# grub-install --directory=/usr/lib/grub/i386-pc --target=i386-pc --boot-directory=/boot --recheck --force --debug /dev/sda1
# chattr +i /bo
Going through LFS 7.3 and about ready to make it bootable but Fedora's grub is giving me issue.
The plan was to share /boot between LFS and Fedora 18 as I have done in the past (been awhile since I ran LFS - LFS 4.something last time). Hell, I've shared /boot between Fedora, CentOS, Ubuntu, and LFS.
I had Fedora 15 on a computer, dual booted with Windows 7. I did a fresh install of Fedora 17, but in the process I seem to have wiped out its capability to boot Windows 7, which I'm pretty sure is still on the disk.
My plan is to install grub on the /boot partition of the new Fedora 17 and then fix the MBR to boot Windows and use Easy BCD under Windows to dual boot.
Hi everyone. I have an 80 MB /boot partition, which is obviously a problem. I'd like to move the contents of that partition into the /boot directory on my root partition, and change my boot process to no longer mount the /boot partition and instead boot from my root partition.
I'm trying to restore Grub to boot Linux Mint 13 and Windows 7. I just installed Windows 7, which rewrote the MBR, and then I was told I could simply boot Ubuntu live cd, install boot-repair, and reinstall grub over the MBR. I went through the installation, using the option to purge the old grub, but it failed, asking me to run some terminal commands to uninstall grub.
I have a dual boot on my computer of Windows 7 and Xubuntu 12.10. The Linux boot is 1st and the Windows 2nd. I would like to reverse the boot order in the GRUB menu. I need to know the steps to go about editing GRUB.I do most of my work on Windows and need it to be 1st so I can boot up and not watch it.
Ok so I'm having a bit of trouble.
I have installed Ubuntu on my hard drive first and then partitioned and installed Windows 7.
Original title: How can i solve (un)booting windows 7 on the same partition with grub?
I've been researching for 2/3 days about this problem and I have came up empty.
Basically, partition 1 is Windows 7 and partition 2 is Ubuntu 12.04. I told Ubuntu to install into partition 2 and to install grub on partition 1 and that works fine. But the problem now is that I can't boot to Windows 7.
Ive been running a dual boot set up with Vista for a while (I usually mess things up when I update suse :P)
I left boot options at the default which was my initial mistake, but basically i think grub was installed at the mbr. In other words i didnt have the windows boot menu.
