I've bought new laptop Sony Vaio E14P series. It has pre-installed Windows 8, and I want to dual boot it with Ubuntu 12.10 64bit. I have diabled secure boot and install Ubuntu without any problem from live USB.
When I reboot after installation, it directly boot to windows 8, dont load GRUB at all. So I went to live USB again to boot-repair.
So, im completely new to ubuntu and I just wanted to try it out. So i set up a dual boot with windows 7 and ubuntu, and ubuntu works fine. Yet, when i try to boot windows 7, it gives me the error "unknown filesystem" with grub rescue under that.
Hello everyone.
Ok, I attempted a fresh Ubuntu install as I was having some internal system errors. When a simple "re-installation" didn't fix anything, I performed a "delete Ubuntu 13.04 and reinstall" from the boot USB.
That's when it all began. First I had a grub problem, where all I got at boot was the Grub Recovery. So I booted my windows recovery and repaired it.
I am fairly new to Linux/Ubuntu and am in need of some help. I have dual booted Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10 on 2 separate hard drives. After several attempts, I was only able to get it working by changing the BIOS hd boot option. I then found some threads on repairing the boot process by using Boot-Repair.
I formerly had windows 7 without ubuntu. Now I upgraded it to windows 8..then I installed ubuntu 12.10 with live disk.
After installing it runs ok and I see a dual boot option in grub menu. Now sometimes I log in to windows 8 for some tasks.

It first started when I deleted my partition that had Ubuntu 12.04 on it. Little did I realize at the time that it would destroy all the resources of Grub on it, and subsequently prevent me booting into my hibernated windows. So I made a 12.10 Ubuntu live USB and reinstalled windows bootloader.
Please help.
My Ubuntu Precise Pangolin installation was booting up pretty fast, it takes about 10-15 seconds to boot until today.
When I turn on my PC this morning it was taking a very long time to boot maybe about 5 minutes that I decided to press the reset button then encountered unknown file system and grub rescue error.
Yesterday I installed ubuntu 12.04.1.
Note : its a dual boot system along windows 7
At first grub was appearing and i was able to start ubuntu but then i had to switch to windows but windows was not booting when i select windows 7 it jumps back to grub window. So i fix the Windows Boot Loader using repair from windows media and wolla windows started to boot but Ubuntu Grub gone.
