http://www.linuxquestions.org – Hi i'm using dual os with xp and fedor 8, yestertday by mistake i've changed my hard disk setting from basic disk to dynamic disk in disk management in xp, after i'm unable to boot normally. instead i'm getting grub prompt, now i'm able to boot into linux with the following command. root (hd0,0) makeactive chainloader --force +1 boot but i'm unable to boot into linux pls help me in this is issue Thanks in advance Raja (HowTos)

I am running SUSE 11.1 on a 80Gig IDE HDD, I have added a 160 SATA HDD which I wish to use as storage. fdisk reports it as /dev/sda1 - W95 fat 32 LBA.

I got to the part where I'm supposed to partition Mint. I've got a 500GB hard drive, and I thought I'd give 300GB to LM--but I'm unclear about using ext2, 3 or 4. What about the swap file? Is that automatic?

I am running Win XP and tried to boot a Linux based program ( OPHCrack ) and I received the following message at the end of black screen :

IO-APIC + Timer doesn't work. Boot with Apic=Debug and send a report. Then try booting wit NOAPIC option.

This is japanese to me. How can I fix this ? Is it fixable ?

In AIX we use the errpt command to monitory the status of hardware. disk,cpu , power supplies, fans, memory etc.

I know syslogd and /vat/log messages has some information. I was thinking I might need to write a script to trap or words like error, failure etc.

Is there an easier way to do this?

Ubuntu 9.10 boot problem 3 years 18 weeks ago

After a successful installation of Ubuntu 9.10, one of the upgrades caused boot problems. The message I get when clicking on the Ubuntu entry is [minimal BASH-like line editting is unsupported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completing. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device/file completions]

Hi

When installing Linux,sometimes i tried to install that on my second hard disk, which is set to be a dynamic disk(named hdb),but a message said that: root is not defined for hdb. -What does that mean? Does it mean that a Linux driver must be opened on that hard disk? if so:where do i find a linux driver? -How do i define root for hdb?
