Hi
i'm using dual os with xp and fedor 8, yestertday by mistake i've changed my hard disk setting from basic disk to dynamic disk in disk management in xp, after i'm unable to boot normally. instead i'm getting grub prompt, now i'm able to boot into linux with the following command.
root (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader --force +1
boot
hello!
how do i find out the exact kernel parameters (from the grub config file) when the boot loader is corrupt. Seems like a catch 22 that I need the exact boot parameters when I cant get to a prompt to read the grub.conf file to being with.
My grub2 boot entries never change. I have run sudo update-grub and it finds all the proper kernels and such and says that it has updated. I check with the menu.lst and grub.cfg and they both look to be correct, however, when I go to boot I am stuck with my old boot entries.
hi all,
i am using rhel5 and i just wanted to see the contents of the initrd image. I have copied that from /boot/grub and saved in /tmp directory. Then i did the following
#mv initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img.gz
#gunzip initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img.gz
#mount -o loop initrd-2.6.18-53.el5.img /mnt
After a successful installation of Ubuntu 9.10, one of the upgrades caused boot problems. The message I get when clicking on the Ubuntu entry is [minimal BASH-like line editting is unsupported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completing. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device/file completions]
sh:grub>

I am running Win XP and tried to boot a Linux based program ( OPHCrack )
and I received the following message at the end of black screen :
IO-APIC + Timer doesn't work. Boot with Apic=Debug and send a report. Then try booting wit NOAPIC option.
This is japanese to me. How can I fix this ? Is it fixable ?
