Context:
I have a SAN operating system (Nexenta) that runs on ESXi. It has a couple of HBAs passed through to it already, via VT-d. All of the HBAs for the SAN OS are full (no free connectors). I recently purchased some SATA SSDs for Nexenta and attached them directly to the motherboard's on-board SATA controller.
please advice -
when I run powercf -q command on my Solaris machine ,
which changes this command do on the EMC storage , or on Solaris file system ?
from maanual page:
DESCRIPTION
During system boot on Solaris hosts, the powercf utility
configures PowerPath devices by scanning the HBAs for both
single-ported and multiported storage system logical dev-
ices.
is there any way to create shared virtual disk between two LPARs like how you can do it using Storage through Fiber on two servers ?
Trying to stimulate HACMP between two LPARs
We will be buying new Xeon E5-based servers for our datacenter and were wondering which Fibre Channel host bus adapters we should select for these. The choices are Emulex or QLogic (8Gb FC HBAs). Anybody have any recommendations on which is the better choice?
Thanks in advance.
There is NO documentation out there. The companies don't offer any help on their products, and there aren't text books or anything. I want to set up a storage link between my desktop and my file server. I am here because I will not settle for gigabit, so I need something like FC or a 10 gigabit NIC.
Hello!
I have this infraestructure:
- 1 POWER7 with single VIOS on Site A.
- 1 POWER6 with single VIOS on Site B.
- 1 LPAR called NodeA as primary node for PowerHA 6.1 on Site A.
- 1 LPAR called NodeB as secondary (cold) node for PowerHA 6.1 on SiteB.
- 1 Storage DS4700 on Site A.
- 1 Storage DS4700 on Site B.
- All VIOS versions are 2.2.0.13-FP24 SP-03.
- All AIX versions are 6.1.6.5.

Hello,
I am looking into virtualizing AIX 7.1 on our p7 machine that already has AIX 7.1 installed on it. I have a few questions about them:
1) In order to gain LPAR functionality, do I need to purchase PowerVM software?
2) I read that LPARs are managed from locally attached graphical workstations called HMCs.
Say I have an ESXi (5.0) host that runs a Linux distribution which hosts iSCSI targets, which contain the images for other VMs which the host will run. When it's used, I'll start the host first, then the iSCSI server, and then refresh all storage targets/HBAs in order to see the provided shares as online. I know it's a strange puzzle-box solution, but I was told to implement it.
picked up a 9111-520 p5 hardware recently with 8 Gig of RAM, lots of internal disk space...6 x 140 gig
had 7.1 pre-installed, and managed to upgrade the firmware to latest SF240_xxxx
goal is to virtualize this and have LPARs running aix 7.1, 6.x, and Rhat for ppc ..
need some directions and advices ??
from what I have read, you must put the VIO server on hdisk0 , and ha ve either IVM or H
