When I sat down with Jack Menzel from Google last week, we discussed all of the cool possibilities that are to come for search.

It may not have a cool name like “Siri,” but you can’t accuse Google’s Voice Search app of lacking personality. Or self-awareness, for that matter. In case you missed it, Google upgraded its iOS search app on Tuesday with improved voice search functionality – it’s the closest that iOS users can get to a “Google Now“-like experience.

Google Fellow Ben Gomes just took the stage at LeWeb Paris and announced that Google’s Knowledge Graph project is now available in a number of new languages, including Italian, French, Japanese and Russian (we’re still trying to confirm if Google also added other languages, too).

Google’s Knowledge Graph is quickly becoming one of the key features of the company’s search engine, and the company added yet another area of information to the project. Starting now, users who search for medications will see a box with key facts about them in the right-hand sidebar of Google Search. This data, Google says, comes from the U.S.

Google just announced a small but interesting update to its Knowledge Graph panels.

Google today updated its Inside Search site, its homepage for all things search, with a handful of educational and interactive features that explain in layman’s terms how Google’s Search works. Did you know the web had over 30 trillion pages, by the way? Or that Google supports over 100 billion searches every month? Or that Google’s index is over 100 million gigabytes?

Where there’s discovery, there’s opportunity for sponsored discovery. Though there are no ads in Facebook’s new Graph Search engine yet, eventually Facebook could let advertisers pay to show their results above organic ones, just like on Google.

Facebook has announced its new Graph Search feature, and while we still have to fully digest the impact of this, it’s pretty obvious that its foray into search clearly outranks the very limited search capabilities of its competitor Google+.

Today, Microsoft has leveled more accusations about Google’s practices by way of its “Scroogled” campaigns.
