Google Reader is being retired?!

http://androidforums.com – I have been using Google Reader to keep up with RSS feeds for years. Today I opened Google Reader and received this notice: "Google Reader will not be available after July 1, 2013" The full notice can be found here: Google Reader will be retired on July 1, 2013 Wowsers, I wasn't even aware that Google was contemplating this. This was a nice service and I depended on it for much of my news content. Anyone know of a good, reliable, online RSS feed service? I should find a good rss feed reader for Android. (General)

This follows from Google’s latest announcement that the service will be shut down after July 1, 2013. Google Reader is a Google service I abandoned a few years ago after trying it out for about 2 months.

How long until Google shuts down Feedburner? The company just announced that it is shutting down Google Reader on July 1. That’s a sad day for all of us who still regularly use it, but its demise was probably inevitable.

So I've used flipboard Every morning for my daily news fix as long as I've had my sgs3. I have it signed into my Google Reader account. Are they retiring the Google news service all together or just the Google Reader apps?

Google Reader turned into a zombie a long time ago and it’s good that Google finally killed it. For years, Google Reader has been sitting on Google’s servers without any appreciable updates. Sure, it got a bit of a facelift in 2011, but it only lost functionality since Google decided to rip out its social features in an effort to drive people to Google+.

Google just revealed plans to shut down eight of its services as part of what it’s calling an ongoing spring cleaning effort.

Google announced that iRiver's Story HD e-reader will be available July 17 at Target, and will be the first device to offer Google eBooks support via Wi-Fi. In related e-reader news, the Philadelphia Media Network will offer deeply discounted Android tablets to Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News subscribers, and e-reader/tablet vendor Augen appears to have gone under....

Digg today responded to early user feedback about its plans for a Google Reader replacement announced earlier this month, saying that it has narrowed down incoming requests to four key points: keep it simple, make it fast, synchronize across devices, and, finally, allow for easy import from Google Reader, of course.
