Another big Internet company is the target of Direction générale des finances – France’s equivalent of the IRS – due to tax noncompliance. The agency is asking Amazon to pay $252 million (€198 million) in non-reported tax and penalties. Most of Amazon’s revenue in Europe goes to Luxembourg where the corporate tax is much lower.
Google announced today that they are adding books to Google Play for users in France. Joining Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK, France will be the fifth European country with access to books through Play.
What happens if Google boycotts an entire country’s news content? We might get to witness such a trade war if Google excludes French news from its search results because of a proposed law that requires search engines to pay for displaying snippets of content.

Good news folks as news has gotten out that Sony France will be developing two variations of Google TV devices and launch them in September. The first is a set-top box which will go on sale for €200 ($266), whle the second will be a box with an integrated Blu-ray player that will sell for €300 ($399).
Today Google announced their Q2 earnings, reporting 21% growth year over year for revenue, to the tune of $10.96 billion. GAAP income was also listed coming in at $2.79 billion, up from 2.51 billion in Q2 of 2011.
As of Q2, Google reports having $43.1 billion in cash reserves and equivalents.

Google’s Q3 earnings just leaked ahead of schedule, and it appears that Motorola revenues accounted for $2.58 billion of Google’s $14.10B revenue in the three-month period ending September 30. $1.78 billion was generated from the mobile segment alone, with $797 million credited to the home segment. In total, Motorola revenues account for 18 percent of Google’s Q3 report.

So the next time you stop by Galeries Lafayette in Paris, you will be able to see detailed floor plans for every floor, including information about escalators, ATMs and nearby restrooms.
Google has officially rolled out its Play Music service to Android users in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Beginning today, users can take advantage of the search giant’s generous cloud storage offering, as well as purchase music directly from the Play Store.
Additionally, European users will also be the first to test Google’s new Music Matching service.
