In Ubuntu 12.04 LTS the ‘startup applications’ dialog by default doesn’t show any startup programs. I don’t know why that, but it’s inconvenient to customize your starting up services.
Disabling programs in startup applications dialog may speed up booting your Ubuntu.
My problem: The LCD display on my laptop wouldn't always go to DMPS sleep. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't.
I tried: All sorts of fixes including updates to xserver and gnome-power-manager ... but no luck.
Google Chrome puts itself on my Startup Applications. Processes like "chrome-no-startup-window", "chrome-sandbox", "chrome-type-zygote", etc. keep on running on the background. If I remove Chrome from my Startup Applications, it will show back next time I start the computer. Does anyone else noticed this?
Windows Vista is not booting on my Dell. I've unsuccessfully tried all the repair options available to boot Windows and am now trying to boot with the Knoppix Live CD.

My gnome 3 installation on Archlinux does not run NetworkManger at startup after I added it the list of startup applications with
gnome-session-properties
NetworkManger does start when I type
sudo
I would like to find the reason NetworkManger is not starting. Is there a log file for the startup applications of gnome?

I'm new with linux. I installed an OpenSuse 11.1 on an Acer Extensa E420, but I had some problems:
1st
Sometimes the system starts with the terminal screen (black) instead of the green OpenSuse login window.
If I choose the "safe mode" in the first menu it starts always normally and KDE starts too.
2nd
I have 2 partitions on my computer:
one is "64 GB ext4" (with Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit)
and the other one is "Data 436 GB NTFS" (just for storing files)
On startup the second partition is not mounted before I click on "Locais" - this is in Portuguese (the button between Applications and System on the top bar) > "Data".
How do I make Ubuntu mount this partit
