I'm using Ubuntu 12.10.
I've read about a lense (ppa:pydave/unity-lenses) that you can replace with the original files and folders lense, so you can search all your files. Instead of the current which only search used/recently used files and programs. I couldn't get this to work with 12.10, got a bunch of errors when I tried adding the ppa.
I have Fedora 17 GNOME installed on my Asus 1015PX. I have my personal files on a flashdrive. After closing a new or edited text files, tmp files are permanently saved on my flashdrive. I am manually opening up my folders to search for the tmp files and manually deleting the tmp files.
In Ubuntu, is it possible to view a list of all recently accessed files (by date?) The Unity search menu only shows a short list of recent files for a given search term: I'd like to see a longer list of recent files.
I think I once encountered a program that may have done something like this - I think it was an add-on for Gnome Do, but I can't remember its name.
I recently switched to Gnome 3 (on Onereic 11.10). I used to be a big fan of gnome-do (on Gnome 2), where I heavily used the "files and folders"-plugin. This allows to configure a list of files and folder to be searched on the fly while typing. E.g. starting to type "timesheet" opens "timesheet_2011.ods" from my dropbox account...
I can't seem to find anything like this in Gnome 3.
Hi everyone,
Gnome 3.4 brought us the ability to see recent documents in the desktop search via gnome shell, but at some point in the last few months, Gnome Documents has become the default program for opening libreoffice documents and .pdfs from the shell as well.
I have been using Ubuntu for some time now, but never really had the need to search for a specific file until recently. I used nautilus browser set to 'file system' to attempt to search the entire drive. The search lasted a second and turned up zero results.
I have installed gnome-shell alongside Unity last night. Now, when I press the super key and type in the key word to pull up some file, I get nothing in the search result. Gnome shell is just pulling up applications. No 'Documents' section, no 'Recent files', etc...
I thought it might be an indexing problem, so I manually opened and closed the file
through nautilus a couple times.
As the question says, really - I get the impression that, when Strigi has indexed files, you should be able to search for them from the launcher - similar to in Windows 7. However, it only ever shows results for programs when I try to search for something. Am I just wrong about this?
Hello fans of Gnome :)
I upgraded from F16 to F17 a few days ago and I'm looking for the document search feature that was announced for 3.4 ...
No documents are showing up when I type something in the activities search box. I installed gnome-documents as well, without any success ...
Is there something missing?
