I have recently installed Gnome shell and made some changes, mostly in Compiz but I guess my problem started after installing Compiz Fusion which I found out doesn't work with Gnome shell. There was the option to change desktop environments from Compiz to Metacity and the other way around. After playing around I realized that all of a sudden my mouse was quite slow.

I will share a modicum of what I have learned to date about customizing the new GNOME 3 Shell. This is based on the GNOME Shell in Fedora 15 Alpha. The good news is that the GNOME Shell is highly configurable. The bad news is that some of this information may become out-of-date quite quickly as the GNOME Shell is still somewhat of a moving target even though it is supposedly close to release.
Gnome Shell places pop up notifications on the middle bottom of screen.
Even Gnome 3.4 was not exactly a rock, but F18 with 3.6.2 is really buggy.
I got SIG11 on gnome-shell 5 to 10 times per day.
I'm considering to switch on cinnamon, but I one of few person who like gnome-shell, so I cannot decide!
Anyone is experiencing something similar?
Thanks

Clement Lefebvre, the developer and force behind Linux Mint, continues to find ways to retain the user experience and performance of traditions of Gnome Shell, by forking Gnome 3. Cinnamon is the new desktop environment created around the Gnome 3.2, to give power Gnome Shell users a Gnome 2 like layout and experience.
The GNOME Shell redefines user interactions with the GNOME desktop. In particular, it offers new paradigms for launching applications, accessing documents, and organizing open windows in GNOME. Later, it will introduce a new applets eco-system and offer new solutions for other desktop features, such as notifications and contacts management.
