The Card is this:
AMD M880g with mobility Radeon HD 4200
Upgraded to 12.10 only to find I was now running low graphics mode.
So I searched for the fix, found this:

Tried this:
Quote:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96/fglrx
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy
I'm having trouble installing the amd legacy drivers on my system. I am trying to install from amd-driver-installer-12.6-legacy-x86.x86_64.zip that I downloaded from the AMD site.
I have not recieved any errors during an installation other than once I start I get told that I am missing files needed to run the install.
AMD has recently dropped support for cards in series HD 2xxx-4xxx. Catalyst drivers for these cards are now available in a different branch, called Legacy series. Legacy drivers won't receive any new feature updates from AMD.
Proprietary fglrx drivers for these legacy cards are not compatible with Quantal.
From what I've read and the xorg error I get about no supported adapter being found, it appears the legacy fglrx will not support a new card. This gives me a problem as I have an HD5770 and an HD4350 for multi-seat.
So:
fglrx 12.6 (legacy) from the PPA works on the 4350, not the 5770
fglrx from quantal works on the 5770 but not the 4350
fglrx 12.4 will probably work on both.
I have an older discontinued (and legacy) Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 Graphics Card.
Hi,
I installed F17 on my pc a few months ago, I am pretty sure that at first it did supported both of my monitors with the open source drivers. Then I installed the propietary drivers. And last week I updated the kernel, and it turn out that the legacy drivers for my ATI Radeon 3600 dont work on the kernel 3.5, they wont compile.
I have an older discontinued (and legacy) Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 Graphics Card.
I installed a fresh copy of 12.10 today and whenever I enable the fglrx drivers for my ATI 5870, I login and unity doesn't load and I can't seem to get it to load, any suggestions? Is this a Unity problem? Does gnome shell work?
I upgraded Ubuntu from 10.04 to 12.04 but, I cannot install ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver.
Hardware:
640GB HDD
4GB MEMORY
Intel i3
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
