I just upgraded from 8.04 Ubuntu to 10.04. The mouse cursor works fine during login. As soon as the system switches to the desktop, the arrow cursor "image" disappears (remains working ..you just can't see it). The OS will also randomly shut down requiring a re boot.
I am running Fedora 17 gnome (shell) 3 and gnome terminal 3.4.1.1.
I am a user of both gnome-terminal and midnight commander. As default gnome-terminal has always used F10 (which I need while using mc), to opening the top menu. So was this time.
I am using GNOME 3 and have configured an X cursor theme using gnome-tweak-tool. However, the default X cursor theme shows whenever I have the cursor inside a Java or Qt application. Gtk2/Gtk3 applications all use the correct cursor. How do I configure the X cursor to be used for Qt or Java applications?

I have Xubuntu 12.04 installed on my computer and there is an annoying problem with my mouse cursor. When I start the computer, it is usually fine, but if I leave it for a while it goes in sleeping mode, as it should, and then, e.g., in an hour I wake it up from sleeping mode, the mouse cursor is not there. Actually, it is only invisible but it is still active.
I want to write a program in Python that controls the mouse cursor in Ubuntu. What should I try to connect to: X or GNOME? I am pretty sure that X would work, but I have heard that it is very low-level and difficult to use. Is there some sort of GNOME API for this sort of thing, or would I have to build my own version of GNOME with some added changes?
... and its devilish weirdness!
But ...
Hey all,I just installed Arch on a new hard drive on a Macbook Pro. I am using the subtle window manager. For some reason, my cursor arrow is cut in half so that only the top half is visible. This is the case with all cursors (i.e. the pointer cursor, the text bar cursor, etc).
In Ubuntu 12.04 Unity, when I use the Compiz Zoom feature, the mouse cursor disappears. This did not happen in 10.04, it worked great until I installed 12.04.
In 12.04 zoom was disabled by default, so I re-enabled it to use Super+scroll wheel as it was before.
