This is a simple tutorial about how to get “power off” and “Restart” options in gnome-shell user account menu.
When I first time using Gnome 3, I didn’t find shutdown/restart button anywhere. I shut down and reboot my machine via command in terminal. You might get the same problem if you’re new to gnome-shell.
The power of Gnome Shell lies in its extensionability. It is this power that transforms the barely unusable vanilla Gnome Shell desktop environement into a powerful and extremely usable and productive desktop environment. Gnome shell has a number of useful installations to enhance the user experience.
I have some problems with "Power Off" - it doesn't work but instead goes back to login screen. 'sudo shutdown -h now' works fine. I'm using gnome-shell
kernel: 3.6.0-2.fc18.x86_64
gdm: 3.6.0 1.fc18
gnome-shell: 3.6.0 1.fc18
Any hints how to diagnose that?
I am using gnome-shell on Ubuntu 12.04. On the guest account, I have this handy option switch user, but when I am logged into my own account it is not there for some reason.
Why isn't it there anymore, and how can I get it back? At the moment I can use the workaround to lock screen and I get a switch user button from there, but it would be nicer to have the menu option as I was used to.
I am running Fedora 17 gnome (shell) 3 and gnome terminal 3.4.1.1.
I am a user of both gnome-terminal and midnight commander. As default gnome-terminal has always used F10 (which I need while using mc), to opening the top menu. So was this time.
For those of you frustrated like me at having to use the mouse/to shutdown, here is an easy keyboard solution method:
Use dconf-editor to go to:
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power
change button-power to interactive by holding down the left mouse button and dragging down the drop-down menu.
I'm using Ubuntu Precise with Gnome Shell on a Dell Latitude E6520 and I'm missing the battery status icon. When I run gnome-power-statistics then the battery info is displayed correctly so I'm sure Linux and Gnome can see the battery (So there is no ACPI problem).
Gnome 3.2 was released a few days back. With an improved shell and various other integrations, this shell will please many users.
I tried gnome-shell but didn't quite like it. After removing gnome-shell, I still have them in login menu. However, upon logging in with any gnome option, I get to the usual Unity desktop.
I had purged gnome-shell using apt-get, but seems like some component is still remaining.
How do I remove gnome login options from lightdm login screen?
