You need systemd. With systemd you can issue a command like systemctl enable gdm.serviceto start GDM.

I tried already and didn't work out.I should have posted.Anyone have any ideas?I don't think anyone here does. The mention of systemd just makes people throw a fit.I think some work is in progress about this , since the upstream Devs already know this issue.
