Ok. I have been banging my head against the wall for over a week now trying to get 3 monitors to work.
I have:
1 - Nvidia 8600 GT 512MB PCIEx16
1 - Nvidia GT 240 1GB PCIEx16
They are not running in SLI (obviously). I have tried to use everything from tutorials to a few templates, all the way up to nvidia-settings, etc etc etc..
I have the following xorg.conf file, but TwinView is not working for me when using 2 monitors.
I have:
Ubunte 12.04
NVidia 8400 GS
installed nvidia-common
And xorg.conf like that:
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 295.33 (buildd@allspice) Fri Mar 30 13:37:33 UTC 2012
Section "ServerLayout"
# Removed Option "Xinerama" "0"
Identifier "Layout0"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
Screen 1 "Screen1" RightOf "Scr
I have 2 nvidia cards with three monitors Left (0), Middle (1), and Right (2). I have to use xinerama to make them all one desktop because xrandr only joins 0 and 1, leaving 2 as a separate desktop. My understanding is that xrandr can ONLY join two desktops, which is why I am using xinerama.
After MUCH trouble, I have three displays, all one desktop. But, there is a problem.
Well ever since I have used dual monitors with the NVIDIA X Server Settings program my xorg process has been crashing after a while, and its generally a pretty long while of like 6 hours afterwards. Before NVIDIA changed my xorg.conf file I only had xorg crash like twice in 2 months, I can't figure out what is going on.
Hello,
I have an laptop HP Elitebook 8540p and i can't make ubuntu to work with 3 monitors(Laptop, Acer,LG).
I have Nvidia NVS 5100M video board.
When i'm trying to use twin view i've got the message : MetaMode 1 of Screen 0 has more than 2 active display devices.
I searched about this problem but i couldn't find anything to solve my problem.
Hey there, I currently have 2 nVidia 560's which are both dual monitor. As some of you might know, it seems the only way to run a 4 monitor setup is to run each pair of monitors as their own Twinview, then stitch them together using xinerama. This basically creates two large "screens" that each span two monitors. Unfortunately, xinerama is very old and outdated.
4internetanonymity wrote:Any updates on this? I'm so ready to dump xinerama like everyone else has. Until I can move windows around (how isn't this low-hanging fruit in 2013?), and have my 3 displays - then I'll move. Are there any recommendations in the meanwhile? Isn't there a cheap card now that can do 3 displays at high resolution?
Hi there,
I have an old GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X which did her kob very well on my machine. I've attached two monitors with Xinerama option and separate X screens. The driver is the latest and greatest from nVidia repository NVIDIA 96.43.16
So far so good, but when I tried to activate Compositing, it is all greyed out with the following message:
