glxgears output question

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – I'm trying to get what I can out of my ATI Radeon 9700 and I'm Linux stupid trying to switch over from Weiners. The proprietary driver is to stay away so I've read. The driver at RPM Fusion doesn't work in FC12 so I've read. Being Linux stupid I just don't know if the performance is really going to be this bad on my system or if something is wrong. I've seen folks post glxgears output as evidently a benchmark. So here is mine. 1822 frames in 5.0 seconds = 364.329 FPS 2174 frames in 5.0 seconds = 434.672 FPS 2199 frames in 5.0 seconds = 439.394 FPS 2225 frames in 5.0 seconds = 444.862 FPS 2209 frames in 5.0 seconds = 441.659 FPS 2211 frames in 5.0 seconds = 441.785 FPS 2209 frames in 5.0 seconds = 441.797 FPS 2195 frames in 5.0 seconds = 438.873 FPS My xorg.conf is as created after installing system-config-display. # Xorg configuration created by system-config-display Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "single head configuration" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # keyboard added by system-config-display Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "pc105+inet" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" Driver "radeon" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" "1024x768" "832x624" "832x624" "800x600" "800x600" "720x400" "720x400" "640x480" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 16 Modes "1024x768" "1024x768" "832x624" "832x624" "800x600" "800x600" "720x400" "720x400" "640x480" "640x480" EndSubSection EndSection I did try dropping a couple of settings in that supposedly were tweaks but removed them after there wasn't a change in performance. Is this normal performance for this card under Linux? (HowTos)
