My dad has a P500 and since his eyesight is not so good, he can barely read the phone numbers and text. I think his device has Android 2.2, and there doesn't seem to be an official upgrade to Gingerbread in my country.
From what I understand, there is no option in Android itself to increase system font size.
Froyo and Gingerbread might be the Windows 98 and XP of the Android world, but Google has not given up on the aging, but still very popular platforms. The latest YouTube app serves up new features and a different UI to devices running older installs. And for good reason, too.

Yeah , it's crazy but i have to re-patch my mom's galaxy s2 to Gingerbread... My mom is ignorant(She doesn't know much about smartphones) and she's claiming that she doesnt have a good signal.. Soo she wants it back to Gingerbread(it didnt work well in gingerbread too, so idk what's going on).

The Google Android development team has released the source code for version 2.3 of its open source Android mobile operating system, code named "Gingerbread". Originally announced earlier this month, Gingerbread is the eighth platform release since version 1.0 and is the latest major update for Google's mobile OS.

Google released the latest Android version numbers showing the distribution of all Android versions, collected from all the devices that access the Google Play Store during the last two weeks of the month.
New data on the state of the Android ecosystem has been posted to Google’s Android Developers site. The big reveal? Gingerbread, the version of the Android mobile operating system released back in December 2010, is still leading with 57.5% of Android OS share. Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is at 20.9%, and Android 2.2 (Froyo) has 14%. Yes, Froyo – released in May 2010.
