GIMP 2.8: how to save file using detected image format

http://unix.stackexchange.com – I found GIMP 2.8 has changed quite a lot, you can't just open the file, modify and save it with CTRL + s anymore, instead, you must use export function, which is CTRL + Shift + e, and select a image format, is there anyway of doing the old stuff ? (HowTos)

I currently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04.1 64bit and installed Gimp 2.8.2.

Then I found a serious problem. I use NAS to store all my work files and access them via Samba file sharing, but when I try to save a file over the network in Gimp 2.8, I get message telling me the location is not found.

The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program, a sophisticated image and photo editor. Ubuntu 12.04 includes Gimp version 2.6 available in ubuntu-software-center, but it’s a little out of date.

In 12.04, can the image format for Screenshot be jpeg? I change the file name to save to to be ended with ".jpg", but Gnome image viewer seems not be able to open it saying

Error interpreting JPEG image file (Not a JPEG file: starts with 0x89 0x50)

In today's article, I will show you how to create a simple fading gif image with GIMP. I will use the image below as the sample.

First, open the image on GIMP then make the layer transparent. Just go to Layer > Transparency > Color to Alpha then hit OK:

Next, you need to create several copies of this layer. Go to Layer > Duplicate Layer or just simply hit Shift + Ctrl + D.

Something's wrong with the firefox (came installed with opensuse 11.2). When I go either to the filemenu or right-click, save file, save image, etc do nothing! No window ever pops up.

However, if I press ctrl-o or ctrl-s, the dialog opens up! (Although, this is not possible for saving an image on a page)

Closing and restarting firefox does NOT fix this.

I know it is possible to use GIMP, i.e.,https://duckduckgo.com/?q=gimp+background+transparencyMaybe take a screenshot which pops up viewnoir.  Then file -> open with -> GIMP.Do whatever (background transparency, etc).  Then file -> save as (or shortcut keys)and save as PDF file.Sheng-Chieh
