Well it appears Google Play Store gift cards are really close to getting launched since a Turnersville, NJ Target already has them and one reader, who happens to be an employee, bought one. They weren’t out yet, but the fact that the system was able to ring it up means we are very close.

After being first spotted in the latest Play Store update, Google finally confirmed our suspicions. Google Play gift cards are officially launching in several retail stores across the United States. Initial locations include Target, RadioShack and GameStop. The official page suggests you’ll be able to redeem your codes for apps, music, books, TV shows and movies.
Two days ago we told you that Google was readying Play Store gift cards for folks in the UK. Well it appears that they were closer than we thought as they’re now available. A reader of Eurodroid sent in a picture showing Play Store gift cards in the £10 and £25 varieties at a local Tesco super market.
Google just updated the Play Store to version 3.8.15, which you can download below. What’s most interesting about this update is the fact that gift cards and wishlists are finally on the way. They aren’t live yet, but the folks over at Android Police were able to find references of them in the code. This is something Google desperately needs.
I was wondering when Google would eventually implement this. Recently, Google has enabled credit purchases for their Google Play Store within the Google Play web in itself.
I was looking around the redeem section at play.google.com/redeem and I found that it is possible to redeem a Canadian gift card. This means that gift cards should be coming really soon!
The currency is also in Canadian dollars. And if you remember, the same thing happened just before the UK launch. I also tried to redeem a US gift card, but it obviously didn't work.
In the words of Keyser Soze, “…and just like that, he was gone.” He, in this case, being the web page that was briefly accessible on a Google Support page. Don’t try to search for it now, it’s already gone.
I live in the Netherlands, and I have a Google Wallet account from The Netherlands with The Netherlands credit card.
Now, if I am going to UK or Germany and bought a Nexus 7 from a street store over there. Will I have any issues claiming the Play Store Gift?
Do I need to have a Google Wallet account from that countries with credit card from that countries as well?
