This shows up in the System Settings tool, Displays. It shows the computer as being a Laptop and does not identify the monitor, nor does it allow you to make any changes. As well, when viewing the DETAILS/GRAPHICS it indicates that the Graphic Driver is Unknown. However, when using the Additional Drivers, it shows the proper driver for the video card (in my case, the Nvidia drivers) is installed.
Hi :)
I recently installed ubuntu on my HP 4330s laptop. Well everything works fine, except for the wireless network. I can't seem to get it to work. Plus the button you could press to turn wireless networking on and off in Windows have changed to a switch for bluetooth. I've look for network drivers, but I can only find it for other linux.
My laptop HP Probook 4530s with hybrid graphic.
When I installed amd video drivers from rpm fusion repository by command:
yum install akmod-catalyst xorg-x11-drv-catalyst xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-libs
After reboot, windows manager not start up and freeze at boot.
Pastebin Xorg.0 log file.

Well, this is a painful topic, because I see, that graphic card developers don't want to support Linux environment with their drivers.
I have HP Probook i5-2430M CPU, ATI Radeon HD 6490M/ Intel HD Graphics 3000 and 4GB of RAM.
I tried different drivers but when i do simple tasks, my PC is overheating and CPU temperature goes between 70-80 degrees Celsius.
I have a system on which RHEL6 is installed.
I need to install proper graphic drivers.
I checked my graphic card simply by this command
#lspci -v | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 0162 (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
When I searched its drivers I found this (01.org/linuxgraphics/)link.
But I don't know which drivers to choose and how to install them.
i am new to Ubuntu. And i have been trying to install a new version of the nvidia drivers.
When i do so, the resolution changes to 800*600 and i am unable to change it back.
Hi there! The ati graphics-card i have installet in my laptop is HD 5470.
I have installed the drivers both from the repositories AND from System Settings -> Additional Drivers -> ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. I can locate the Catalyst Control Center, but i cannot open it.
Has anyone else noticed that the Graphics details in System Settings -> Details is not available, while its easily available from the Additional Drivers window?
As far as I know, the System Settings -> Details application is controlled by Gnome. I haven't checked this screen with open source drivers enabled, but I assume it works for them.
OK so I just got Ubuntu the other month or so. I'm running the 11.04 version currently and trying to install drivers for a Nvidia graphics card (it's my brother's computer and he currently cannot find the number of the card right now). I read that, to install the proper drivers for gaming, I would need to go into "Additional Drivers" and choose them myself.
