I don't get any sound when I play a video DVD with vlc media player.
This is on a FC 17 64 bit machine, Xfce spin.
I have sound when I play Youtube videos in Firefox.
I have sound when I play sound files from xmms.
(Don't know what Mplayer would do. I find it's interface too mysterious.)
Anyone know what problem would be peculiar to vlc ?
My media sound doesn't work. My mp3 files play but no sound comes out. My Pandora plays but no sound comes out. My phone rings when someone calls, my recieved texts makes a sound. All works fine but not my media. any solutions?

i dont have any other media in my laptop because i have just fresh installed my OS .
The last time I went to the T-Mobile store, the manager let me play with his S3 and I fell in love with the water drop keypress sound.
So after installing JACK and using 'sudo usermod -a -G audio username' and restarted. This made JACK work however no program using pulseaudio (more or less everything) made any sound. I purge removed Pulseaudio, restarted, reinstalled it, restarted and finally the sound was working again. The only place sound won't come from is the test area in sound preferences.
Hi Community:
I need help getting the default programs correctly for removeable media: CDs.
:)
I've set Sound Juicer to be the default program for removable media when those media are CDs by using:
System settings > Details > Removable Media > CD Audio and then selecting Audio CD Extractor (Sound Juicer) from the pull down list.
This is strange. I can watch movies and I have sound.YouTube has sound, mpg's play and have sound, ogg work as advertised, .wav files, no problems.BUT I pop a music CD in (Example: Paul Simon - original not a copy) and nothing, it doesn't even show up in Thunar.I start VLC > Media <click on> Audio CDDisk Device: /dev/cdrom> Playand I get:Your input can't be opened:
Hi there,
I recently bought this Acer Aspire One 722 and I have used it for around two weeks under Windows 7 Ultimate X64. Everything runs smooth on it except for when playing 1080p videos in .MKV format or Youtube.
So now, I finally got to dual boot both Win7 and Ubuntu 11.10. I love Linux!
This morning, I was on my computer (watching YouTube videos and listening to music) Everything was fine. That update window came up, so I updated and restarted (it said I had to) But when I logged back in, sound on YouTube wasn't working.
