I am using Fedora 17 LXDE spin. Just a few minutes ago I typed this command in a terminal as root and it took some time to download and install all the Perl related packages. There were more than 1000 packages as I remember and the total size of the download was also nearly 300 MB.

Hello people, On HP-UX B.11.11 U 9000/800 How can I have in aprox.

I am using ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I want to save downloaded packages using aptoncd, so that I don't need to download all the packages again when I reinstall OS.

Now, the problem is last week when I checked my /var/cache/apt/archives folder, there were more than thoousand packages about 1 GB in Total.

I tried googling it, but I cant find it. Im looking for: 1. number of threads in process X 2. total number of threads running currently

I maintain a couple of large packages that we use internally and starting with the next release I would like to split those into smaller packages.

Equivalent of yum distro-sync? 1 year 17 weeks ago

In redhat-based distros, the yum tool has a distro-sync command which will synchronize packages to the current repositories. This command is useful for returning to a base state if base packages have been modified from an outside source.

Is there some tool to show me all packages I've installed that are not part of the set of packages that comes with a "clean" install?

I'm just cleaning out packages I don't use any more prior to upgrading from F15 to F16 (the computer has passed hands a number of times and is slowly accumulating unused packages).

After a long time I checked yum repolist and found that there is more than 30 % increase in the number of packages in fedora repos since fedora 17.

is there a way to check the installation of meta packages on redhat? like on ubuntu, one can check whether the meta package ubuntu-minimal is installed by using the following command:

dpkg --get-selections ubuntu-minimal

do such meta packages (say redhat-standard and redhat-minimal) exist for redhat? if yes, then is there a way to check if they are installed or not?
