T3 Gadget Awards: Nexus 7 Wins Top Honour
I suppose there are lots of these awards, and I don't know how prestigious the T3 awards are. However I use my N7 more than any other of my various Android devices, even my phone, so I guess I agree with T3 :-)
It’s that time of year again when we start taking nominations for the sixth annual Crunchies Awards, the Oscars of startups and technology. Once again we are co-hosting the awards with GigaOm and VentureBeat and we will return to the beautiful Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. Last year was our first year at the Davies and it was the best Crunchies yet.
Australian developer Firemint has broken a fourteen year drought to be the first to garner two awards at the Apple Design Awards.
Well, the startups have entered, the judges have judged and the shortlist has been drawn up. The Europas – Europe’s annual awards for tech startups – now has the the shortlist of nominees for this year’s awards available here. Over 1,000 nominated companies have gone through a rigorous judging process in over 30 categories.
The 2012 Mobile Choice Awards was held last night in London, and Samsung came out on top with the Galaxy S III winning best smartphone for 2012. We should note that the iPhone 5 wasn’t part of the festivities, but I’m confident the GSIII would still be the winner. As to tablets, not surprisingly the iPad won, but the Nexus 7 was a close second.
Well September is shaping up to be a banner month here in the world of free and open source software. Not only did we recently learn the winners of this year's "Bossie" (Best of Open Source Software) awards, but we have Software Freedom Day coming up this Saturday! Nothing like awards and parties to make a person forget all about hack attacks and other unsavory aspects of the daily grind.
The Free Software Foundation and the GNU Project have announced the opening of nominations for the 15th annual Free Software Awards.
The Free Software Awards also includes the Award for the Advancement of Free Software and the Award for Projects of Social Benefit.

Raleigh, NC –February 17, 2009 –The Business Leader of the Year awards are given annually to top performing business executives in North Carolina. This year, for the first time, the awards were determined by a public vote. More than 7,000 people visited the Triangle Business Leader website to vote for winners over the last month.
