I find the default display of "Permissions" in nautilus (when viewing properties of a folder/file) difficult to use.
To solve this, I always used gconf-editor in 10.04 to change to the following:
gconf-editor: apps > nautilus > preferences > show_advanced_permissions
How can I get permissions to look like above in 12.04?
Note this is for a RHEL 5.4 system which uses gnome-system-log 2.16 from the gnome-utils package. Unfortunately for us, the selection of these packages and versions are non-negotiable, at least at this time.
When the System Log application is closed, it saves its' set of open log files into the user's folder, in the file ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-system-log/%gconf.xml .
I get an error from the terminal when I run the operation "compiz --replace"
GConf Cleaner is a tool that scan your GConf Database to remove keys that are not associated with any schema. Believe me, when you uninstall programs or packages in Ubuntu, not all keys or data associated with those programs are removed.
Right then. I've been messing around with my filesystem a bit and I need to purge Rhythmbox's Library Location settings to do this. Unfortunately for me it appears that my computer is pulling these settings right out of its *** with no place to store them.
I've tried both dconf and gconf neither of which have the settings that are supposed to be there.
After the recent update my "appearance" customizations have vanished... I tweak the appearance using gconf-editor...
For example:
gconf-apps-gwd to give that glassy effect to windows title bars. Since the updates the effect is gone and when I retry from gconf it says "This key has no schema". Overall gconf-editor is not working.
Also Ubuntu tweak is not working...
I recently switched from Thunderbird to Evoution, mainly because of the better vertical view support which provides two lines for each mail in the list of mails securing readability. Unfortunately after changing something in the preferences, maybe the columns to show, there is only one line per email. I tried a lot within the preferences but the two lines don't come back.
I noticed that Fedora 12 made some odd design decisions for default GNOME settings, and I couldn't locate the System->Preferences->Windows menu item to change them back.
The design options I'm talking about:
I wanted to clean up my tmp directory. So I went to the /tmp directory and did sudo rm -r * in /tmp. But now I get error messages when I open an application.
For instance, when I try to open nautilus I get:
Code:
(nautilus:22457): Eel-WARNING **: GConf error:
